Our Climate Changes
As I write, a major rainstorm is pounding down with ferocity. Thunder strikes and lightning flashes. Nature is speaking in alarming ways and there is no avoiding the clashing of elements and the agitation that is stirring.
Humanity too, is in a state of agitation and the outside thunder and lightning illuminate the collective human crisis of the personal storms that form inside each one of us.
Nature is a magnificent creative work of art, and so are we. The individuality of each one of us is distinguished from the lightning, rain and trees, and from other animals through our superior mental development, our power of articulate speech, and our upright stance. These gifts give us the potential to consciously evolve, through awareness and transformation of the lower forces at work within us - to change the climate in our lives.
How can we say we are concerned with the state of the earth when we are mostly unaware of our own earth (our bodies) and the climate changes within ourselves?
who are we?
have we lost the meaning and purpose of what it means to be human
as the trees know how to sway and move with the winds
the sun to shine and the moon to reflect the light
do we know our purpose and significance on this earth
as nature’s keen and discerning element of life forces?
will we choose to pay attention to our own inner climate
to tend our interior storms
in order to grow in freedom and love?
As the storm outside begins to abate, my prayer is that our efforts to bring equanimity to our inner weather, bear the fruit of inner climate change in service to one another and our world.
