We are All CoCreators

We tend to look at the world in a dualistic way. Right vs wrong, win vs lose, us vs them, things are split into only two baskets— “I like this” and “I don’t like that”.   This dualistic way of living goes way back to the story of Adam and Eve and the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. Before humanity ate the fruit, we just saw everything as “good”.

We did not impose judgements on everything that came into our lives.  But, splitting things has now become common place and we hold tightly to the things we like and are comfortable with, and we push away the things that may be tedious or hard to understand.   The most glaring example of this in the world today is politics. One side feels their views are the “best” views and the other sides views are, well, the “worst”.

Gurdjieff taught his students about the Law of Three. His goal, to wake up humanity to see that life is not split into just two ways of living.  He revealed that there is a third way.  His third way, he called the reconciling force. This new way is a way that we create when we are able to hold our opinion in equal value to the opinion of another.

When we hold the two and truly respect and value them, a new way is created. It is a way that is not like either of the old ways.  The reconciling force or the "new way" is a method in which we humans create. The new way helps the human race evolve and grow.  This third way can only be created when we are living consciously and making a choice to hold and honour the two opposites. Because neither are wrong or right they just are. This does not mean convincing others, it does not mean giving up your view, it is the waiting with both sides (this may be uncomfortable) until a new insight drops in.  This new insight never existed before, the new insight will be created by us.

We are Cocreating a new world. Will we choose to honour all that everyone has to offer, or will we just stay attached to our old ways of thinking?

My good friend David Walsh would say “humans are self-evolving organisms”. It begins by embracing our innate ability to create.
